Daily cruise to Oinousses

Departure from Chios at 09:00. Located east of Chios, just 1 hour from the port of the island and opposite Lagkada, is the island complex, Inousses.

The first image you come across as you arrive at the port of the main island is the beautiful village of Egnousa, which is amphitheatrically built on a steep hill. Unpretentious, tranquil and authentic it invites the visitor to wander through the narrow cobbled alleys and admire the luxurious mansions, since many shipping families originate from the island.

As you enter the picturesque little harbour, you are greeted by the bronze mermaid, with a crown and a sailing ship in her left hand – a trademark symbol of the island’s maritime tradition. As you walk through Naftosinis Square, you come across the statue of the Anonymous Sailor, the first statue in Greece dedicated to lost seafarers.

The abundant churches and chapels on the island are of great interest. Standing out among these are the Church of Agios Nikoloas, which is the pride of the island, and the magnificent monastery of the Annunciation. The religious frescoes that adorn the monastery are unique and a work of the hagiographer Fotis Kontoglou.

It is also worth visiting the impressive Maritime Museum, whose exhibits include model ships (most of which were built by French prisoners of war in England during the Napoleonic Wars), nautical instruments, shipwrights’ tools, old photographs, paintings, a collection of 18th- and 19th-century weapons, as well as artefacts from the Geometric Period.

The unique, tranquil landscape and natural beauty is complemented by crystal-clear pebbled or sandy beaches around the island and the clear blue sea that engulfs it.
